*~* Cannery Row Jump Community Guidelines *~*

We strive to create a welcoming space where dancers of varied experience, age, gender, and background can come together and share their interest in dance. This diversity enriches our dance scene, and it is important to us that we provide an environment where all dancers can try new things and have fun.

In order to do this, we ask that all attendees adhere to the following guidelines:

Fragrances and hygiene
We are in close proximity to each other while dancing. Out of consideration for those in our community who are sensitive or allergic, we specifically request that you not wear fragrances to our events, including scented body products. Please also be mindful of your overall hygiene. This includes washing your hands or using hand sanitizer.

Etiquette
Please exercise good manners at all times. If you ask someone to dance, it is for one song. You may turn down a dance with anyone at any time, without offering an explanation. If you decline a dance, it is polite to sit out that dance and wait for the next song. If you’ve already promised the dance to someone else, say so. If someone declines a dance with you, that’s ok! Celebrate people taking care of themselves.

Advice
Positive feedback and encouragement are always welcome!
Please offer constructive criticism or advice ONLY when asked. We want everyone to feel comfortable trying without pressure to do it perfectly.
If you want feedback on your dancing, ask for it! This can be a great way to improve. We ask that you do this before or after lessons, or during practice time.
If you'd like more in-depth guidance, you may inquire with CRJ staff about private lessons.

Safety and consent
We encourage you to use your voice on the dance floor. Communicate with your partner and speak up if you aren’t comfortable with something they do.
Sometimes while dancing we step on someone’s foot, make accidental contact, etc. If this happens, please apologize and check in to see if the person is okay and wants to continue the dance.
Any accidental contact that becomes a regular occurrence may be considered harassment and addressed accordingly by CRJ staff.
If you are uncomfortable with anyone’s behavior toward you or others and do not want to address it directly, we encourage you to report it to a person in charge (Nora, Don, Erin, or other designated party) so that we can take necessary action to restore comfort in our community. Reports will always be kept confidential among CRJ staff unless we feel someone is in immediate danger. Action taken may include the following:
  • Monitoring the person but not approaching them
  • A private conversation with the person
  • In some cases, asking the person not to return to a certain venue or to any CRJ events
General Feedback
We welcome our dancers’ feedback and offer a few ways for you to voice suggestions, concerns, comments, compliments, or complaints. All feedback will be considered! Speak to us in person, or…
1. Suggestion Box (on the payment table at CRJ events)
2. Email [email protected] (Nora)
3.. Private message us (Nora, Don, or Erin) in WhatsApp

By being physically present at our events, classes, or swing outings, you agree to act in line with this code of conduct.
Thank you for helping us foster a respectful, safe, and encouraging experience for all our dancers.
